Faith On First: Thoughts on God, Nature and Sacrifice Bunts

Front coverNow in his 20th year of writing religion columns for The Grand Rapids Press, Charles Honey has collected four score of them in his first book, “Faith on First: Thoughts on God, Nature and Sacrifice Bunts” (Freeze Frame Publishing). The compilation features short reflections on personal spirituality, inspiring music, the mysteries of faith and the beauty of creation. The author also offers personal vignettes on inspirational people, from Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama to Paul McCartney and Gerald Ford. These contemplative reflections are tied together with the colorful thread of baseball, a game in whose abiding pleasures the author finds evergreen renewal and joy.

“Faith on First” is available at Schuler Books & Music in Grand Rapids and Okemos, and may be ordered from there here.  I would also be happy to send you a signed copy, if you email me your request at honeycharlesm@gmail.com. You may also order it from Amazon.

REVIEWS and ARTICLES

Award-winning sports author John Rosengren in “The Visitor” of St. Cloud, Minn. writes, “Honey’s dual passions for religion and sports converge in these columns, where he turns a benevolent eye toward both.” Read the full review here.

Author Ann Byle writes in West Michigan Christian News, “Honey’s baseball theme—chapters are innings—is one he’s tracked with for years and a game he enjoyed with his father. “Baseball is a spiritual game, very calming and centering, and slows life down for about three hours. There are long spells of ordinary time, then peaks of excitement.” Read the full article here.
